Instructions Following Surgery

Following an apicoectomy (surgery on a previous root canal), you will leave with sutures that must be taken out within several days, up to a week. You will also be given complete written instructions for the care of the surgical area. You will be able to eat a normal diet, with the exception of foods with seeds, and all chewing will be done on the other side until the sutures are removed. The day of the surgery, we want you to hold ice on the area to help control the swelling which is a very normal body response. You may return to your normal schedule the day following the surgery.
